Back Pain from Auto Accidents

An auto accident can be a traumatic experience.  The sounds of the crash, checking everyone to be sure they are ok, flashing lights and police statements. Even when the injuries seem minor the trauma creates an adrenaline rush that takes hours to wear off.

Your body goes through trauma during an accident too. The sudden jolt of a crash can create injuries in all areas of the spine, and even if the injuries don’t produce pain right away, they need immediate attention from a professional who is accustomed to working with these types of injuries.  At Cole Chiropractic Clinic, we’ve been treating Tulsans with injuries from auto accidents for decades.

Your spine has three distinct areas that be damaged due to the high impact of a car wreck.

The cervical spine can get “whipped” forward and back causing an injury known as whiplash. Whiplash is quite painful and can take months to fully heal.  The discs of the neck can also be damaged in car accidents and can cause pinched nerves and even disc herniations.  There are also many forms of sprain/strain injuries that can occur due to a neck injury.

The middle of the back, known as the thoracic spine, is where the ribs attach and this part of the spine can be damaged in ways similar to the neck and low back:  with sprain/strain injuries, pinched nerves and disc herniations. Additional injuries can occur at the site of any of your 24 ribs, especially if you are thrown into a hard surface inside the vehicle.

The low back can incur injuries very similar to a neck whiplash when the body is thrown forward and then whipped back during an impact.  Sprains, strains, pulled muscles, pinched nerves and even more serious disc herniations and fractures occur fairly often as a result of an auto accident.

Treatment for these injuries can be from minor to major, sometimes requiring surgery to remove discs or insert rods into the spine.  Our Tulsa chiropractor will perform a thorough spinal exam and an extensive x-ray study of your spine to diagnose the injuries that occurred  as a result of your accident.  Our treatment plans are designed to relieve your pain as quickly as possible with the long-term goal of complete healing  so there is no reoccurrence of symptoms.

Motor vehicle accidents can have a huge impact on your daily life.  The pain, the anxiety, loss of work and the disruption of your normal life is a component of the pain and suffering part of any insurance claim.  Let us help you get back to your normal routine.

We encourage you to schedule a pain relief or auto accident appointment with our Tulsa chiropractor as soon as possible following a vehicle collision.
