Frequently Asked Questions About Neck Pain Answered By Your Tulsa Chiropractor

Neck Pain FAQs

Your pain is not only bothersome, but for some it can put normal daily life on hold. If you suffer from neck pain, call Cole Chiropractic Clinic for some much-needed relief.

I woke up with neck pain. I was fine yesterday! What caused this?

There are many kinds of neck pain, but patients frequently tell us they just "woke up with it" and it seems to have appeared out of nowhere. There are a number of possible causes for this kind of neck pain. The first is that you may have slept in an awkward position, causing some irritation to develop in a nerve. This type of pain is usually sharp, moderately severe and often includes quite a bit of restriction in the motion in the joints of the neck. The good news is that it usually responds very well to chiropractic treatment, and we see quick pain relief and full restoration of motion in the joint. Another cause of a sudden onset of pain is that you may have unknowingly injured your neck the day before, maybe with a quick awkward jerk of the head, or a small impact that you didn't really notice, and overnight, that injured joint tissue begins to swell, causing pain in the neck the next morning. This type of pain can be sharp, or dull and achy, and may or may not restrict motion in the joint. It is often accompanied by stiffness and a little difficulty turning to look over your shoulder. This is the type of pain that can get better in a few days, or accelerate and get worse. Quick treatment can usually provide relief and prevent the pain from worsening. Sometimes, we see another kind of pain that occurs in the morning: pain from arthritis. Although arthritis doesn't usually have a sudden onset, it can be the type of pain that creeps up on you, and hurts in the mornings but then once you are up and around, tends to diminish as the day goes on.

I've never been to a chiropractor. how will you treat my neck pain?

Chiropractic is a gentle and safe treatment for joint pain of any kind, and is designed to not only relieve your pain but to restore the function of the affected joints so you have full movement and minimal nerve restriction. Dr. Chris Cole has been treating neck pain in Tulsa for over 25 years, and is considered to be one of the top chiropractors in Tulsa. At Cole Chiropractic Clinic, a thorough examination is performed, which may include x-rays of the affected area. Chiropractors use x-rays to look for fractures of course, but also to look at the alignment of the spine to determine where the trouble is stemming from. Correcting misalignments with manual adjustments is the cornerstone of chiropractic treatment. In our particular Tulsa chiropractic clinic, we also use therapeutic modalities designed to enhance healing time and reduce swelling and irritation of soft tissues which helps to provide faster pain relief. Dr. Cole will design a treatment plan of recurring visits based on his years of experience treating similar conditions.

Why should I try chiropractic care for my neck pain, rather than drugs or surgery?

Chiropractic care is the first rung on the ladder for treating joint pain. It is safe, natural and non-invasive. Most patients have very successful outcomes, are back to work and regular life more quickly, and don't require medications or surgery. However, if Dr. Cole evaluates your situation and determines that your case will not benefit from chiropractic treatment, he will find the right provider for you and his helpful staff will take care of the referral process. Our focus at Cole Chiropractic Clinic is taking good care of you.....just like we would a family member. Give us a call at (918) 664-2273. Appointments are usually available within 24 hours, and we take most insurances.
