Physical Therapy Modalities

Physical Therapy Modalities with our Tulsa Chiropractor

Ultrasound at Cole Chiropractic Clinic in Tulsa

When you are in pain, you want relief immediately. As a Tulsa chiropractic clinic, we want to relieve your pain, but we also want to provide long-lasting results that allow better movement, long-term pain relief, and speedier healing. One of the ways we achieve that goal is by providing physical therapy modalities along with your chiropractic adjustments.

What is a Physical Therapy Modality?

Physical therapy modalities are used by rehabilitation specialists to reduce pain, restore joint function and promote faster healing. While these therapies might not be common in a chiropractic clinic, at Cole Chiropractic Clinic we find that our patients achieve better and faster results when these therapies are incorporated into their treatment regimen.

At our clinic in Tulsa, we offer natural therapies based on your individual situation and needs. The therapies we use are considered passive and non-invasive. Most patients also find them relaxing and enjoyable. We serve the Tulsa area, including Broken Arrow, Bixby and Jenks.

What Physical Therapies does our Tulsa Chiropractor prefer?

Our Tulsa chiropractor, Dr. Christopher K. Cole treats a variety of spinal concerns, areas of discomfort and complications with your body. We evaluate your situation and recommend treatment after determining the cause of your injuries or pain.

The common therapies we use include:

Therapeutic Ultrasound which is an FDA-approved therapy that produces sound waves to increase blood flow to an area. A transducer is moved over an injured area in small circular motions, and the sound waves heat the muscle, tendon and other tissues attracting blood flow to the area which can speed up the healing process. Ultrasound can be used for sprains and strains, pinched nerves, plantar fasciitis, carpal tunnel, whiplash, tennis elbow and a variety of other conditions.

Phonophoresis is a specific application of ultrasound that enhances the delivery of topical pain reliever creams.

Electrical Muscle Stimulation, or E-stim, involves a small electrical charge applied with an electrode to the patient's skin that causes small muscle contractions in the underlying tissues. This therapy is used for both pain relief and functional improvements.

Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation, commonly referred to as TENS, is a type of E-stim used to manage pain. It is thought that the various frequencies activate pain receptors, essentially sending stimuli into the nervous system.

Intersegmental Traction is a massage-like table the patient is placed on that is designed to traction, or separate, the vertebrae in the spine to open up the spaces between the vertebrae and also to massage the trigger points along the spine.

Diathermy is a deep heat therapy that is applied to an injured area. The machine is designed to direct heat to the deeper tissues of the body, relaxing the fibers in muscle, tendons and joint capsules that then allow the tissues to stretch more easily, which helps to relieve stiffness of joints and decreases muscle spasms.

At our clinic, we work with the entire family. We recognize that adults and children may face challenges with their physical health, so we offer appropriate treatments based on the underlying causes of the discomfort.
