Muscle Spasms

If you have just been in an accident, you are probably overwhelmed with phone calls to make, decisions about your vehicle, and worries about the injuries to you, your passengers and the other drivers involved.  An adrenaline rush kicks in, and you feel a surge of nervous energy.  But when that adrenaline surge wears off, you are likely to begin to feel the aches and pains resulting from the impact to your body from the accident

Muscle Spasms in Tulsa

What does a Muscle Spasm feel like?

Muscle spasm is one of the most painful conditions experienced after a car accident. They can be gentle twitches or wildly painful cramping, recurring over and over for days on end. The muscle may be taut and distorted, and sometimes the movement from the spasm can be outwardly visible. Spasms can last for a few seconds, or relentlessly last for days; the pain recurring off and on, or almost constant.

What causes a Muscle Spasm?

Muscle spasm can be caused by a number of things, but after the impact experienced during a motor vehicle collision, the muscles sometimes contract and are unable to relax.  Muscle cramps are common in everyday life, and are sometimes known as a Charley Horse. After a car accident, these muscle spasms can sometimes be very slow to diminish.

How do I treat a Muscle Spasm?

Applying heat, ice or alternating heat and ice can sometimes provide relief for a spasm. Often, however, more in-depth treatment is necessary. By visiting our chiropractor in Tulsa, we can administer the following treatments:

Electrical Muscle Stimulation (e-stim): By gently inducing light muscle contractions, our therapy can help the muscles regain their natural state, while also rehabilitating the damaged muscle group.

Therapeutic Ultrasound:  Our ultrasound therapy helps to naturally reduce inflammation in a very targeted area, reducing swelling and promoting fast healing and blood flow to an injury.

Chiropractic Spinal Adjustments:  Our chiropractor can target the area and correct issues with protrusions, curvature and alignment.  Pressure from misalignments that can cause muscle pain can be corrected.
