Frequently Asked Questions About Carpal Tunnel Pain Answered By Your Chiropractor in Tulsa

Carpal Tunnel pain in hand

Our Chiropractor, Dr. Chris Cole, has treated hundreds of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) cases, and in fact Dr. Cole has a special certification in the treatment of CTS. At Cole Chiropractic Clinic in Tulsa, we are glad to answer your questions about how chiropractic provides treatment and relief of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

CTS is a condition where repetitive movements cause inflammation of the median nerve in the wrist. This nerve then becomes compressed, or pinched; causing pain, tingling and weakness in the wrist and hand.  If left untreated, carpal tunnel can limit function of the thumb and fingers of the hand.

We often see these repetitive motion conditions in hairstylists, machinists, dental hygienists, people who work on computers all day and really anyone who repeats hand motions for countless hours during the day.

What are the common symptoms of CTS?

CTS presents as pain in the wrist that can radiate into the hands or up into the forearm.  This pain can be present while the repetitive motion is being performed, or can be constant. It can be accompanied by a pins and needles sensation, weakness and sometimes the lack of ability to grip or hold objects.

Why Should I Seek Chiropractic Treatment for Carpal Tunnel?

CTS can be treated conservatively, and chiropractic treatment is the best place to start to see if the condition will improve without more invasive treatment.  First, Dr. Cole will perform an exam to determine whether the pain is actual Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or from another cause. A proper diagnosis is the first step. Then Dr. Cole will develop a treatment plan for your individual situation, including home exercises and ice packs, along with special chiropractic adjustments that help re-align the carpal bones in the wrist so that the median nerve pressure is relieved. In-office therapeutic modalities are also used to reduce inflammation in the wrist.

If you are in the small percentage of cases that do not respond to conservative treatment, Dr. Cole has a network of the best medical professionals in Tulsa to whom he can refer a case for possible surgical intervention. Fortunately, most cases respond positively to chiropractic treatment and their condition resolves without the need for repetitive surgeries.  This is the main reason patients seek Dr. Cole's expertise in treating their Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
