• What Does an Adjustment Do?
A chiropractic adjustment is a quick, specific force applied to a joint at a certain angle that is designed to release a joint back into its natural position. Any joint in the body can be adjusted, from shoulders to feet, but patients normally come to the chiropractor for neck and back pain. In 2019, in a study conducted on patients with low back pain, an MRI was performed after a chiropractic manipulation that showed that the patients in the group who received a chiropractic treatment had an increase in spacing between the spinal vertebrae after a treatment. They also reported a decrease in pain. This study showed how effective chiropractic treatment is at releasing spinal adhesions and opening up the spaces between vertebrae to allow for proper nerve flow. Another study showed an increase of 8-13 degrees of range of motion in a joint after an adjustment, along with local pain relief. These studies, along with studies on the effectiveness of chiropractic treatment for pain relief, are the evidence that chiropractic improves the health of the spine. As a pleasant side effect, chiropractic treatment also reduces pain! Removing restrictions to nerve flow is one of chiropractic's primary goals, because when the nerves that serve our internal organs and muscles are working properly, your whole body is healthier. • How Laughter and Chiropractic Heal the Body
But did you know that laughter has some of the same healing effects as chiropractic care? Laughing is an all-natural way of lowering pain levels and relieving stress, just like Chiropractic care. Laugher reduces the level of stress hormones in the body. Stress hormones like cortisol raise your blood pressure, increase your heart rate and prepare your body for a fight or flight response. Prolonged stress has negative effects on your heart, as well as your entire cardiovascular system, causing unwanted side effects like weight gain. Chiropractic treatments release muscle tension and pressure on the nerves, allowing the body to relax, function more optimally, and heal properly. Laughter also helps release endorphins, our body's natural mood enhancers. Exercise does this as well. These chemicals; neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine, are our body's natural opioids, and they give us a feeling of overall balance and wellness. Chiropractic care does the same thing by releasing muscle tension and tightness around the nerve roots of our skeletal system, and by enhancing the functionality of the nerves in the body. This release of tension can help improve your mood as well as increase those feel-good chemicals in the body. Read more
